How Do I Start Working Out After a Long Time
Whether it’s because you’ve decided to get in shape, after pregnancy or after a long recovery from injury or disease, getting back to working out can be tough. It’s hard to know where to start or what to do sometimes and it’s also a time when people are more prone to injury which is the last you want!
Physical activity has a huge range of benefits for us, both physically and mentally, and some form of movement is so beneficial even just slow walking or jogging along Bondi Beach or Zetland Park.
If you are not sure how to start, or what to do in order to achieve your goals, chat to one of our physios.
We will be able to help advise you on what is most appropriate for you to start off with, taking into consideration any injuries you might have had and prescribing a program that increases the volume and loading in a smart way that doesn’t overload the tissues leading to pain or injury.
Often, it takes time for our bodies to get used to a task again especially after a long break.
Neural connections should be refreshed and reinforced first before we get comfortable again. It’s similar to driving again or playing again your favourite sport. Perhaps it will just take a few minutes but whichever is the case, it takes some time before our minds and bodies can remember the motions (and let our bodies get ready for what comes next).
For a smooth transition and make sure you won’t get injured, we can help you here at Peak Health Services.
We’ll start with a thorough assessment of a potential issue as well as your current physical condition, goals, lifestyle and requirements. We will then design a personalised treatment for a smooth exercise progression. You can contact us today and book for a visit and consultation.
