Shoulder Niggling For A While?
Is your shoulder bothering you?
Having issues completing typical exercises in the gym?
Trouble when sleeping on your shoulder?
Reaching in certain directions causing a sharp sensation in the shoulder?
Shoulder injuries are one of the most common injuries we see at the clinic and can often be one of the most debilitating ones. Shoulders are an extremely complex joint, relying heavily on musculature for both stability and movement. If you think about what the shoulder is able to do it needs to reach in multiple directions, and has huge mobility demands, with that being said, the mobility can create issues if the strength of the shoulder is not adequate.
Having a strong rotator cuff and ensuring those muscles stay healthy are essential in addressing shoulder injuries and pain. The rotator cuff assists in moving and stabilizing the shoulder about the joint, especially when the elbow leaves the side of the body or when reaching overhead.
The longer you leave the shoulder unattended without seeking help – the more injury/inflammation may arise and the longer it will take to get back to doing things you enjoy. A shoulder screen by a trained physiotherapist would involve finding out what may be causing the pain, working on tight muscles, and strengthening weak muscles to help improve your symptoms.
